Glitter, Carnage, and Chainsaws: The Brookridge Cleanup

Recently at a Long Island Off Road Meeting the president requested we bring back trail reports.

So with that in mind, this is my Trial Tale!

The trail cleanup went very well, I can say that, I did not do much of it, that was handled by Brain J. George D. Bobby P. Bryan & Jack K.

I was driving the emotional support trail vehicle, or was it a tool cart, or a Chinese laundry cart, or a water cart, anyway you know what I mean. These guys worked all day, trimming and cutting, wow I was tired just watching them work, I will have you know that 17,652 snips with the loppers and 6,492 cuts with the hand saw, I lost count with the chainsaw, I could not press the clicker fast enough that George provided me! The trail rigs took a beating, they all broke something or other.

They developed a noisy front axle, maybe hubs, u-joints, seals, worse, who knows! Broken taillights, bashed rear drive shaft and u-joint, total carnage for green trails, I was told? This all happened at a spot that has a sign that says Engagement Ridge, well we left a engagement gift, all the needles from the u-joint that I couldn’t pick up and some taillight plastic that turned into glitter on the ground a few hundred feet before said obstacle, congratulations! Then I realized that my Scrambler was the only rig on the trail and all that shit happened to me! What the hell, green tails my ass! After some help from my fellow club members, we were able put the Jeep back together, thanks to some spares and tools, not enough l might add, back on the trail. With some creative spotting and a lot of winch use, up and over I went! Spectacular!

The rest of the trail ride was full of trail cleanup, trimming branches and that sort of thing, there was some entertainment in the form of someone jumping into mud puddles, it brought me back to my youth. That person will remain nameless because I fear that the kids mother does not know what shenanigans took place today.

I feel that the cleanup went well, we they had, hand loppers, hand saws, chain saws, some trails where cleaned forward and backwards, but I may be wrong, I was lost most of the day!

We ended the day with lunch, beverages and cold expresso, all sponsored by LIOR.

The long ride home was uneventful, thankfully and we all made it home in one piece a little vibration from the drive shaft a very noisy front axle, and a taped up taillight!

I want to thank all who attended the Brookridge Cleanup and helped get me repaired and off the trail, the members who picked up tools and supplies, and picked up and put together lunch, I know, I know to many ands!

It was all pulled together and turned into a great day!

I’m sure the organizers would love to see more people attend these events, it benefits all clubs members, so do your part AND make wheeling great again!

Thanks

Sal
